IUS Aid has engaged with gypsy families in Pakistan to encourage them to send their children to Al-Qaim School – the only school that takes children with no fixed address.
Shoaib Akther belongs to a gypsy family who came to Layyah after the disastrous 2010 floods. The family owned a monkey and two bears which earned them a living through circus acts. For Shoaib’s father this family tradition going back 6 generations was a source of pride. However, Shoaib’s keenness to study and our campaign lead his father to sell the two bears. They purchased a piece of land near Al-Qaim School and built their own mud house. Shoaib Akther is delighted to be in school and he dreams of becoming a schoolteacher. However, Shoaib’s family (see photo) cannot afford the costs of a school uniform, books or stationary.
Please could you help Shoaib Akther fulfill his dream of becoming a teacher? Make a donation today.
